Job Description

We are seeking a dynamic Construction Controller to lead the financial foundation of our exciting new construction division. This entrepreneurial role offers the unique opportunity to build financial systems and processes from the ground up while driving profitability in a fast-growing startup environment. Controller Role:
Financial Management & Reporting
  • Develop and manage project budgets, forecasts, and financial models for construction projects
  • Prepare monthly financial statements, variance reports, and project profitability analyses
  • Monitor cash flow and working capital requirements across multiple projects
  • Ensure accurate and timely recording of project costs, revenues, and work-in-progress
  • Coordinate with project managers to track budget performance and identify cost overruns
Cost Control & Analysis
  • Implement and maintain cost accounting systems specific to construction operations
  • Analyze material, labor, and equipment costs to identify trends and opportunities for savings
  • Review and approve change orders, ensuring proper documentation and financial impact assessment
  • Conduct regular job cost reviews and provide recommendations for cost optimization
  • Establish and monitor key performance indicators for project financial health
  • Compliance & Risk Management
  • Ensure compliance with accounting standards, tax regulations, and industry-specific requirements
  • Manage insurance claims, bonding requirements, and risk assessment procedures
  • Oversee accounts payable and receivable processes, including lien waiver management
  • Coordinate with external auditors and prepare audit documentation
  • Maintain internal controls and segregation of duties for financial processes
Leadership & Collaboration
  • Supervise accounting staff and provide guidance on construction accounting principles
  • Collaborate with project managers, estimators, and field personnel on financial matters
  • Present financial reports to senior management and stakeholders
  • Support business development efforts with financial analysis and proposal preparation

Controller Background Profile:
Bachelor’s degree required; CPA preferred.
At least 10 years of progressive accounting experience within the Construction industry.
Experience with QuickBooks preferred.
Advanced knowledge of GAAP.
Strong understanding of financial reporting standards and best practices.
The ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic, growth-focused environment.
A leadership mindset, with a commitment to mentoring and developing a strong team.
