Our client, a leading company in the commercial real estate industry based in Dallas, TX, is seeking a skilled Real Estate Controller to oversee their accounting team in a direct hire position.

Real Estate Controller Role:
- Lead and manage accounting and finance operations with direct exposure to senior leadership
- Supervise general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, payroll, consolidations, and treasury functions
- Prepare GAAP financial statements for multiple entities (30–40 per accountant)
- Manage budgets, forecasts, cash flow, and project funding
- Offer financial insights to enhance project performance and strategic decision-making
- Implement and reinforce internal controls, policies, and processes
- Collaborate with banks, auditors, tax advisors, and external stakeholders
- Mentor, train, and develop accounting staff to cultivate a high-performing team
- Engage in hands-on accounting tasks daily, not limited to review-level work
- Lead and support staff in a dynamic setting handling a substantial portfolio of entities
Real Estate Controller Background Profile:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA certification highly desired
- Minimum of 7 years of progressive accounting and finance experience, with at least 3 years in a leadership position
- Proficiency in ERP/accounting systems; Experience with Sage Intacct is mandatory
- Background in real estate, land development, construction, or multifamily sectors
- Thorough understanding of GAAP, consolidations, and joint venture/partnership reporting
- Experience in managing budgets, forecasting, cash flow, and investor reporting
- Demonstrated track record of stability and commitment in prior roles (typically 4+ years at previous companies)
- AP/expenses experience with modern systems like RAMP or equivalent
- Strong performers who excel in high-volume, intricate accounting environments
